Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland

Literally in Inuit "The place of the big houses",  Ittoqqortoormiit is almost as unpronounceable as the old Norse names in Iceland.  Situated at the mouth of the largest Fjord system in the world, Scoresby Sound, it is about as remote as it is possible to be anywhere.  Summertime is downtime for the locals, the sea ice has melted and they are not able to get out on the ice to hunt and fish.  Now that Sydney is starting to feel a little cooler, it's time to remind ourselves how fortunate we are in Australia with our mild climate.  In Greenland summer temperatures do not exceed 10 Degrees Celsius.  Ouch !
